Resources for Practitioners

We have begun gathering resources for lawyers, investigators, mitigation specialists, social workers, and anyone else involved in the practice of habeas law. We will continue to add to this list as we learn of new resources and opportunities.

Standards

Pardon our dust! The National Habeas Institute is developing the guidelines for the practice of capital habeas law first. The Habeas Institute is building upon existing standards and would appreciate feedback from capital defenders in our practitioner survey. Thank you!

HAT

Habeas Assistance Training (HAT) collects information about capital habeas law and is an excellent resource for any questions involving a death penalty case.

SCOTUS Blog

The staff of the National Habeas Institute follows those critical cases that go before the United States Supreme Court. SCOTUS Blog provides an invaluable resource for tracking these cases and accessing the docket.

death penalty information center

The Death Penalty Information Center (DPIC) is a national non-profit organization serving the media and the public with analysis and information on issues concerning capital punishment. DPIC prepares in-depth reports, conducts briefings for journalists, and serves as a resource to those working on capital cases.
